While gasoline remains a vital aspect of automobility and will likely be the primary fuel source for several more years, the industry landscape has started to shift. The internal combustion engine's inherent limitations have demonstrated the need for an alternative—and battery-powered/supported vehicles are becoming more prolific by the year. Acura is gearing up for the transition to a more sustainable automotive future and already has a few battery-powered models under its belt, including the new NSX hybrid supercar.

Acura NSX

While most exotic vehicles spend the majority of their lives in storage, making infrequent appearances at a track or show, the Acura NSX is an "everyday supercar" that's meant to be driven. It offers seductive styling, luxurious accommodations, and exhilarating performance from a prodigious hybrid powertrain comprised of a mid-mounted twin-turbocharged 3.5L DOHC V6 and a trio of electric motors—two of which independently power each front wheel. The result is AWD 573 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque, a 0–60mph time of 2.7 seconds, and a top speed of 191 mph.

Future Acura Hybrid/ Electric Vehicles

Acura is no stranger to automotive battery technologies. Besides the Acura NSX, you can find previous Acura hybrid examples like the MDX Sport Hybrid family SUV. However, the company is closely guarding its future hybrid plans. But, given the extensive hybrid experience of both Acura and its parent company, Honda, we expect the next generation of battery-powered Acura models to be nothing short of electrifying.
